“Very unique. It's a step back in time. Don't expect modern resort but you will get friendly authentic service provided by local people who bend over backwards to fulfill your needs and interests. Dufur is a very small old rural historical town in, what some would call, the middle of nowhere. If you want seclusion and enjoy country walks or bike rides and meeting really interesting people the Balch Hotel is for you as it was for us. The people really are fantastic. “We loved this cabin the moment we walked in the door! The cabin is well appointed, cozy, and inviting. The glass-fronted wood stove, radiant heat floors, walk-in shower with a forest view, comfortable bed (again with forest view), and the river trail were all highlights. We can't wait to return!”

“This is a beautiful home with lovely gardens and rooms. We enjoyed our stay. It was an drive to the business district, breweries and down to the river. The Secret Room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the attached bathroom had plenty of counter space. There is a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the room. The common room and porch are very pleasant, and the owners provided access to plenty of guide books for hikes, flower identification, kids activities, games, and lots of……

“The RubyJune is a wonderful little spot. Gretchen and Chris are incredibly devoted to making your stay as personal as they can. It is a little oasis all on its own, with sweet gardens and fire pits and wine/beer in the refrigerator. Breakfast is delicious in the cozy kitchen. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our two nights in this lovely place.”

“The cabin had some quirks about. It must’ve been on an ant hill, as there was an extreme issue with ants. Cleanliness was less than desirable cobwebs everywhere dirty fan, not kept horribly as your toilets and areas were clean, but the overall cleanliness of the place was not desirable.”

“Fantastic experience here! One of the best places we’ve ever stayed anywhere, anytime. We were in the Mt. St. Helen’s cabin and it was wonderful! Fireplace, jacuzzi in the room, outside swing, beautiful and comfortable bed, wine and espresso. Gorgeous landscaping and beautiful grounds. The breakfasts each morning were delicious- we did both in room and in lodge and loved both experiences. Friendly people who go the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful stay - very genuine and kind staff who……

“Interesting experience. There is no on-site staff, but the building is in excellent (restored) condition. You let yourself in with the door code and then you’re on your own. The on-site restaurant is not operating, so we drove a couple miles for dinner. We made breakfast from what was on site. Thankfully there was no noise from the railroad outside. We’ll be back.”
