Ended up paying expedia and the hotel. Twice for same room. Reception on check-in stated no payment was made by expedia and we had to pay. Checked our credit card the next morning and we had paid via expedia. On check out the receptionist said she was not authorised to produce a refund and gave up an e-mail address for the manager.
We did a live chat with expedia who could not contact the hotel so passes it on to the next team. Then got a reply from Mohammad from experia who stated he was unable to contact the suppliers so could not provide a refund a said there was nothing else he could do !!!!!
