4/10
We recently stayed at Grand Coba, and while I understand there was a recent fire, which we were never notified of, that caused disruptions across the resort, many of the issues we faced had nothing to do with that unfortunate event.
We were traveling with my elderly mother, who uses a wheelchair, and the lack of support and accommodation from the staff was unacceptable. Every time we called for help transporting her to meals or activities, we had to remind them of her needs all over again. Each time, we were told, “Okay, we’ll take care of it,” just to get us off the phone — but then nothing happened. We had to keep calling multiple times just to get her to the buffet, which became exhausting and frustrating. Accessibility should be taken seriously, and unfortunately, it felt like a constant afterthought here.
One of the worst experiences was at a specialty restaurant, where we waited over 40 minutes before even being acknowledged, and over two hours before we decided to leave without dessert. We were traveling with our 8-year-old autistic child, and sitting that long with no clear communication or effort from staff made the evening extremely stressful. The service was inattentive and slow — not what you’d expect from a resort that bills these restaurants as “premium experiences.”
The room itself was not any better. The king bed was very uncomfortable, making it impossible to get a good night sleep. We also had to call to clear ants out of the room where son slept.
