Atomic Motel is such a delight it exceeded all expectations (especially after a stay at another motel on the same trip). The so-called mid-century modern is so in-your-face but whiscical. It brings a smile to my face and a big chuckle when I first entered the room. But charm means nothing if the room is not clean or the appliances do not work. Luckily, the room is as clean as the old property can get, and those themed appliances are all in good working order. The motel also uses technology judicially. Because we were late, they sent a text message detailing everything we needed for late checkin without waking up staff. Usually I am less than thrilled to receive text from a commercial establishment. But this one was very considerable both for me and for the staff.
Astoria is a small town. Atomic Motel is close to everything, although you still need the bus or a car if you want to visit the town.. The motel is very close to the bridge. The view from the parking lot is pictoristic. If you don't want more than the continental breakfast included in hotel fare, go next door to Pig 'n Pancake, a fun local eatery.
Age does take a toll on the property. The shower knobs had a leak when turned on. There was also a strange light incident. We brought these to the attendent during checkout the next morning.
