Extremely disappointed with our experience at Coco-Mat Athens BC. The original room we booked felt more like a stuffy, old Motel 6 than a boutique hotel. We paid an upgrade fee for what was described as “the best room available,” which did have a beautiful balcony view of the Acropolis—but oddly, no furniture to enjoy it.
The condition of the so-called premium room was unacceptable: bodily fluid stains on the bed and couch, damaged flooring, rusted shower head, robes with loose threads, and overused, scruffy towels. We also found several hairs under the sink and thick dust throughout the room—all documented with photos.
We checked out immediately and returned the keys, only to be refunded the upgrade fee. When I asked about a full refund, I was met with a patronizing smile and told to “send pictures.” No one even offered to inspect the room.
I’m appalled this is rated a 5-star hotel—at best, it’s a 3-star. I’ve stayed in hotels around the world, including elsewhere in Athens and Greece, and this was by far the worst. It ate away precious time on our final night in the city before a long flight home.
We’ve contacted the hotel directly and will be disputing the full charge with Visa if they don’t refund it. Strongly recommend others look elsewhere.
