My husband and I chose Le Grand Courlan for a birthday staycation in Tobago, hoping for a relaxing, adults-only getaway. What should have been a wonderful retreat quickly became a profoundly disappointing and frustrating experience that ultimately ruined my birthday.
From the moment we arrived, we encountered issues. Despite having an Expedia receipt for a down payment, the hotel staff insisted we pay the full balance upfront, claiming the payment never went through. We paid to avoid further conflict. Our optimism was short-lived. Upon entering our room, we discovered there was no in-room Wi-Fi, and our mobile data didn't work. When we inquired at the front desk, a staff member rudely told us, "so no one tell you at check in the inernet dont work in the bedroom and only in common areas," demonstrating a shocking lack of customer service and professionalism.We tried to overlook these initial red flags, including the mold and algae in the ponds near the pool. However, the poor communication continued. On my birthday, August 18th, we went for breakfast only to find the dining area empty. We had to go to the front desk to be informed that breakfast was being served at the hotel next door, another frustrating example of the resort's failure to communicate with guests.The most severe issue occurred at the end of our stay.
