Panic! The property was occupied!
Our group was traveling from Colorado, North Carolina and Montana to see my brother run in the Boston Marathon. I never received check in information from the owner. Panic set in when we were unable to make contact with the owner. In the meantime, my brother was at the property and said someone was living there. When we finally made contact with the owner through VRBO, he tried to deny that the property was not ready for our arrival. We sent pictures and he stated that indeed the place was occupied and the inhabitants would not be leaving. It was also Easter weekend so it took great effort to find other accommodations for our group of 8 people. Horrible experience! VRBO was great and covered our entire cost of relocating at the last minute. I feel that the owner knew his property was not going to be available, otherwise he would have contacted me with check in instructions. Very shady! I understand that things happen but in these situations communication is imperative. That did not happen.
