A Grateful Washingtonian Mom’s Experience in Burlington, Vermont
I came up from Washington, D.C. with my senior high school son to visit Middlebury College. As a Black family traveling to a town where we quickly noticed there weren’t many people who looked like us, I was honestly a little nervous about how we’d be received. But staying at Bristol Suites hotel in Burlington changed everything all thanks to the hotel keeper Ms. Niko.
From the moment we arrived, Ms. Niko welcomed us with warmth, kindness, and genuine care. She made sure our room was perfect and that we felt comfortable and safe. When we realized there were no taxis or Ubers available to get us to the college, Ms. Niko didn’t hesitate she offered to drive us herself so we wouldn’t be late for my son’s meeting.
That act of generosity meant so much to me. It wasn’t just good service it was compassion and community. Ms. Niko went above and beyond, and I’ll never forget it.
If you’re ever visiting the area, especially as a Black family, know that there are people here who see you and will look out for you. Ms. Niko is one of them.
