Located in the small quiet village of Cañones, not only will you find that there are spectacular mountain views but you will also find that this is an ideal location to take a day trip to visit some of the most beautiful places in northern New Mexico. Santa Fe (AKA The City Different), Taos, the Santuario de Chimayo, the Chaco Canyon National Historical Park, the mineral springs in Ojo Caliente, and the beautiful scenic drive to Chama where you will find the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad are some of the most popular places to visit while enjoying your stay with us!

Also, just minutes away you will find the Abiquiu Lake, the historical Ghost Ranch, and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Cañones is a nice tranquil place where you can sit and relax or take hikes to the nearby Indian Ruins and other hiking trails if you wish!

This beautiful adobe house was built in the 1800s and has been in the family for generations. Because of the thick adobe walls, this home is warm and cozy in the winter months and nice and cool in the hotter months. With recent renovations, this 2 bedroom/2 bathroom home has been upgraded with contemporary modern necessities which include arched doors, radiant heating, beautiful floor tile, walk-in closets, and exposed ceiling vigas.

Equipped with all the amenities to make your stay that much more enjoyable, included are a washer/dryer, microwave oven, coffee maker, cooking pans along with plates and utensils to use at your disposal. Internet/Wi-Fi and Satellite Television can also be utilized for your pleasure!

Lovely stay surrounded by NM grandeur

Each morning I walked the gravel roads to get a new view of Perdenal - Georgia OKeefe’s favorite mountain. Snuggled into Canones, this lovely, comfortable home welcomed us to a quiet setting away from the bustle of Abiquiu tourists. Our host thought of every need and has made their casita a perfect getaway for us.

Beautifully appointed home in a scenic, secluded setting

Two friends and I stayed at La Casita Tranquila for 3 days as our base for exploring the area around Abiquiu. The house seemed to have been recently remodeled (probably around and added to an old adobe home) with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was equipped to meet every cooking need. The living room, bedrooms and bathrooms were newly furnished. A real treat for us (that you don't find in many rental places) was the large areas outside the house, all enclosed by by walls. There were numerous places with outdoor furniture to sit and read and look at the surrounding cliffs and hills dotted with pinon trees. There is also a little cabin with whimsical things inside that guests had added. The Casita is actually located in a tiny village, Canones, where some families have probably owned property for centuries. It is a 15-minute drive from the highway, but we enjoyed the scenic drive back and forth. The surrounding area includes Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, a great ice-cream shop, and stunningly beautiful cliffs and geologic formations. We would definitely rent the Casita again for another visit in the future to this magical area of New Mexico.

Wonderful Quiet Location

If you’re looking for a quiet weekend getaway, this is it! The house was amazing and well equipped for cooking and everything you’d need for a long weekend! The host was amazing. The location is in a small community and everyone was super friendly. The house had great outdoor space, which was awesome for us because we brought our 2 dogs. Overall, we would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Interesting location

This property was definitely set back within the landscape and was such a neat experience. Mountain scenery was spectacular as were the night stars as there is very little light pollution at this property. House itself was really well built, furnished, and the kitchen was well stocked. Very clean and great communication with the host. Would stay here again if in the area.

Truly does feel like a retreat or refuge, tucked away in a small village, but within driving distance of well-known places. Hosts are nearby, eager to assist with anything needed, extremely friendly and happy to share knowledge of the area. The fresh herb garden is a special amenity. The original core of an early traditional home (later expanded) has been converted to very comfortable, modern accommodations. The ambience is indeed tranquil, with a sense of timelessness.

Lovely house with beautiful view

This was a beautiful home with many amenities. It is located somewhat remotely in a small community and is surrounded for privacy, and you get a great view from the the patio area. Very clean and all of the furniture and beds were nice and comfortable. The owners are lovely people. I would rent this again!

Clean, welcoming home in a beautiful little valley

We stayed for a long weekend and enjoyed the lake (about a 10 minute drive from the house). The house is completely updated, well maintained and very comfortable. We met one of the owners and a neighbor. Everyone was warm and welcoming. Thank you for a lovely time!

Comfortable and Convenient

While we had a little trouble finding the property because we just didn't go quite far enough, the challenge was worth it! The house was super clean and comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms appear to be brand new. We loved being able to bring our new puppy and the fenced yard was convenient for him. We would have enjoyed being able to stay longer and hike up to the canyon. We have agreed that we'll have to come back sometime so that we can do that.

Awesome gem tucked away in the hills!

Fascinating history surrounding this community. Lovely casita beautifully renovated and surrounded by some of Mother Nature’s best work. Perfect for our home base while exploring the many beautiful and interesting sites around Abiquiu. Our pup loved having her own yard with great views of the surrounding mountains. Stunning views, Quiet, Clean, and Great Host!

Exceptionally clean, great location and wonderful host. The home has all the cooking supplies we needed to make some of our meals, and very comfortable beds. It’s been recently remodeled and so everything is new. We stayed for a week to explore and hike the Abiquiú, Ghost Ranch, Taos and Santa Fe area and this home was the perfect location. It’s in a small village outside of Abiquiú. Rick our host, took us on a great hike with Indian ruins that we otherwise would not have known about. It was the highlight of our trip.

The Best Place To Stay in Abiquiu!

We were looking for a nice place near Abiquiu for 3 adults. We didn't want the expense of two hotel rooms, but did want a bit of personal space. My wife suggested that I look on VRBO, and I found this lovely casita near Abiquiu Lake, between Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms means a bit more privacy. A kitchen allows for meals, midnight snacks and readily available coffee. We arrived a little later than expected, but were warmly greeted. After unpacking, we were even entertained with a neighborhood fireworks show! The night sky was absolutely beautiful, as the stars and Milky Way were so much more visible away from city lights! This house is charming and spacious, with luxurious linens and soft fluffy towels. Great showers (with good water pressure!) and very nice amenities! After a good night's sleep, sunrise was peacefully calm, having breakfast on the patio to the sounds of birdsongs and grand views of the hills. We enjoyed exploring Abiquiu in the morning, stopped by the casita for lunch, then to Ghost Ranch for the afternoon. After freshening up, we drove down to the lake for a light picnic while admiring a lovely sunset. Another comfortable night's sleep, then breakfast and a morning of hiking to Chimney Rock at Ghost Ranch. The owners allowed us a late checkout, so we could freshen up before the ride home. This visit to Abiquiu was made extremely comfortable, thanks to the stress-free convenience of the accommodation. What a world of difference this place made! I wholeheartedly recommend staying at this nice casita, and hope it's available next time we visit Abiquiu! *****

Enchanting New Mexico

The casita was a wonderful weekend retreat from the hustle and bustle that is Denver and perfect for our needs. We traveled with an elderly parent for a family reunion held at the Lake Abiquiu who is no longer physically able to camp. For this purpose the house was ideal. Located in a stunning canyon in close proximity to the lake (6 miles to the campground/12 minute drive) it was the most affordable and convenient choice for our family. Everything was exactly as advertised and I will plan to return again and again. The house was impeccably clean, spacious and well appointed. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the back of the unit enjoying the spectacular night sky free from the city lights. The owners of the unit were friendly and greeted us warmly when we arrived and wished us well when we left - not intrusive in the least. I highly recommend this enchanting casita to all visiting the area. My only complaint was the length of my stay!

Can't wait to get back

This funky little village reminded us of The Milagro Beanfield War. It is a great, centrally located place for exploring the area. We stayed there a week and wished it could have been much longer. The house itself far exceeded our expectations: clean, cool, quiet, comfortable and extremely well-appointed. We lacked for nothing, and the property owners couldn't have been nicer and more attentive to our needs. We've rented many vacation houses, mostly through flipkey and airbnb, but this one was the best.

Need to get out of the hustle and bustle! This is the place!

We were staying at a cabin in this area just a half of a mile away. Our time was up at the first place and we didn't want to leave Canones. We had only just started exploring the natural wonders of the area. We got lucky and located Thelma and Rick's property. A beautifully appointed oasis! All you need, it is there. Kitchen very well stocked to cook which perfect since it is located quite a ways from stores, restaurants and such. Plus it is so cozy it was wonderful to eat and relax at the casita. Ample closet space was really sweet! 2 wonderful bedrooms, 2 baths all decorated very comfortably. Internet was great. Living area very comfortable. Beautiful dining room. There is a private patio and yard. It was quite awesome to see all the love and hard work Rick and Thelma put into this place with their own hands and talents! They were welcoming hosts and gave us great ideas of what to see and do in the area. We were not ready to leave! People in this hidden canyon were very cordial too. I even met and went on walks with the local critters of the village! I felt safe and secure at all times. The views are amazing and it is very conveniently located to see all the Abiquiu area (O'Keeffe area) Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu Lake, Bandelier etc has to offer. It is nice drive of great beauty from Albuquerque. If you have the time take the smaller highways to the west to get to the Casita. The views will take your breath away. I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about our stay at the casita and we will definitely be back!!! Thanks Thelma and Rick!!!

It was a beautiful and lovely quiet place in the middle of Canones.
