The facility itself was clean and overall well-maintained, and my stay was generally okay. However, I would not stay in a hostel again due to a deeply uncomfortable and upsetting experience.
Late one night, I was showering in the women’s bathroom and, upon stepping out of the shower cubicle, I was shocked to find a man inside the space. This was not a case of a trans guest using the facilities, which I would have understood — it was a man in the women’s bathroom, and the situation left me feeling exposed and vulnerable.
When I reported the incident to the front desk, I felt dismissed and unfairly labeled as being judgmental or transphobic, which was not the case. My concern was about safety and the enforcement of gender-designated spaces, not anyone’s identity.
This experience was traumatizing and has made me reluctant to stay in any hostel again. I hope the management takes guest safety and concerns more seriously in the future.
