We recently stayed at Best Western New Smyrna Beach for a 3-night Memorial Day weekend trip, and unfortunately, our experience was far from acceptable.
1. There was extensive mold on the ceiling of our room (we have photos to document this). This is a major health concern and completely unacceptable.
2. Despite being told housekeeping came every other day, we never saw them once. We had to go to the front desk because we were out of toilet paper (we were only provided one roll) and towels. A work order was put in at 2 pm, but by 8 pm, we still didn’t have any. When we returned from dinner, the front desk gave us 2 rolls of toilet paper but informed us the hotel was out of towels. This was after a housekeeper told us to leave the towels in the hallway—meaning we had nothing to use for hand towels or showers.
3. The pool was supposed to be open until 10 pm. At around 8 pm, multiple guests—including us—tried to use it, but it was already closed. Earlier that day, the front desk said, “Have a great time at the pool,” so we were surprised. When we asked why, the maintenance person said they had just decided to close it early.
4. The pool’s foundation is severely cracked and crumbling, creating sharp edges. My son was pulling pieces of broken concrete out of the pool because they were dangerous.
5. Balcony Lock Issues: The locks on our balcony doors were broken, and the latch could easily be pulled out. My son was actually stuck out there when the lock pulled apart.
