We designed SaltBrush Casita with colors and materials chosen to blend with the native landscape. Tucked beneath cliffs five minutes from Escalante town and less than a half mile from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, we offer high-desert beauty and solitude in the best of locations.
Completed in 2025, the Casita is a 740 square foot home with a modern open floor plan. The living room features comfortable sofa and armchairs arranged around giant windows that frame the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain. It also has a high definition smart TV.
When eating in, enjoy the full kitchen with a range, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, Nespresso machine with coffee, electric tea kettle, tea, French press, cutlery and cooking utensils, and a full complement of stainless steel cookware. All the stoneware is made by Brett, the owner and local potter.
The separate main-floor bedroom has a queen bed with soft Pima cotton sheets and view of the rugged cliffs rising immediately behind the house.
The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring slot canyons or fly fishing on Boulder Mountain. The bathroom has a tub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.
A spiral staircase takes you to the loft, which oversees the great room and features its own huge bank of windows, providing expansive views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep comfortably beneath Pima cotton sheets in the queen bed.
The SaltBrush Casita has heat, air conditioning, hi-speed WIFI, HD smart TV, key pad for self check-in, and a 220 power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle.
The shaded patio is nestled against the rugged cliffs. Relax and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture. The queen sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest. A Nest doorbell is outside the front door.
Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. Traveling from west to east, it passes through Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and Dixie National Forest, eventually arriving near the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. The Petrified Forest State Park is less than five miles away from us, as is the Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center. If you want a change from the Monument’s sculpted landscape, take Old Escalante Road from SaltBrush to the Dixie National Forest and the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forest, cool air, and small lakes waiting for your fly rod.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world and there is no better place than SaltBrush Casita to experience the night sky. During the day, you are free to explore our eight acres. Enjoy our small slot canyon, and wander the landscape blanketed in native wild flowers, Grama grass, Utah Cedar, piñon, sage, cacti, (eponymous) saltbrush, and other native flora.
Please remember we are not the first occupants of this special place. We were preceded by the Fremont, who hunted and gathered in the Escalante Valley, and the ancestral Pueblo people, who farmed corn, beans, and squash in the canyons. Pottery shards, stone tools, and stone debris left from making tools must be left where you find it. You cannot collect these materials on the property.
