When we drove into the parking lot, it was obvious the hotel is remodeling and the front entrance was blocked off. Signage was clear where to enter. We arrived around 5:00 pm and our room wasn't ready. Lena asked us to go up to the mezzanine to have a "complimentary drink." She soon brought our room key to us and told us they would also give us "complimentary breakfast." She was super helpful and made that rough start more pleasant. When we got into the room, the deadbolt wouldn't lock at first but my husband was able to somehow get it to lock with some wiggling. We had an ocean view, remodeled room which appeared clean, but the carpet had large wet spots in several areas. Our night was pleasant, woke up to the sunrise, went to have our "complimentary breakfast", and went back to the room to pack up. Then came time to head downstairs, but we were locked in our room. The deadbolt would not open at all. We had come and gone a few times during our stay, but never had this issue. Our call to the front desk for help was answered promptly and within 10 minutes, maintenance arrived. They had to use a crowbar to get our door open! When we finally made it downstairs, the manager told us our room would be refunded because of this, but I would have to call Expedia to facilitate a refund. Marietta was super apologetic and helpful. I didn't realize until I got home that while checking out, they gave me a receipt and I was charged for the either the complimentary drinks or breakfast. Ugh!
