The cottage is situated in the heart of the mountain town land of Agios Ioannis in Raches. It is in close proximity to the village of Christos (10 mins by foot).
It is a traditional stone cottage built in the 1940s that has been recently renovated by the grandson of the builder and original owner. It is run completely on solar power offering guests a stay at a sustainable and environmentally efficient property while aligning with Greece’s growing focus on sustainable tourism, reducing carbon emissions and reliance on traditional energy sources.
Agios Ioannis is a picturesque area surrounded by lush greenery and traditional Ikarian charm. It is an area also well known for it's annual traditional music seminar, Musical Courtyards (https://www.musicalyards.gr/).
It is located about 6 km from Armenistis and Gialiskari, both of which offer stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters. The drive to these coastal villages takes around 10–15 minutes, making them easily accessible for a relaxing day by the sea. Whilst offering a peaceful refuge, even in the height of the tourist season, Agios Ioannis Cottage is a stone's throw from the nightlife in the village of Christos.
Some villages accessible from this area include, for example, Vrakades (approximately 10 km away), Magganitis (around 25 km), Petropouli (about 8 km), and Evdilos (roughly 15 km). Each of these villages as well as for all island villages, has its own unique character, with Evdilos serving as a key port town and Magganitis offering dramatic coastal scenery.
The proximity of Agios Ioannis to these locations makes it an ideal base for exploring both the inland and coastal beauty of Ikaria.
