I had a disappointing experience at Tav Izmir Airport Hotel due to the poor customer service from front desk agent Nilay Kalis. Given the hotel’s location at an international airport, I expected professionalism and basic hospitality, but unfortunately, that was not the case.
My wife, who doesn’t speak Turkish, called the front desk to ask if the hotel had a US plug adapter. She asked politely in English, but Ms. Kalis immediately and dismissively responded, “No.” It was clear she either didn’t understand or wasn’t willing to assist. To clarify, I called the front desk myself. Ms. Kalis answered again, but this time, instead of outright refusing, she told me to “come downstairs and pick whichever works for me.” This response was unprofessional and lacked basic courtesy.
After a long journey, we were exhausted, so I kindly asked if someone could bring the adapter to our room. She refused and insisted we come down to retrieve it. This lack of hospitality and unwillingness to accommodate guests’ needs was unacceptable.
Front desk employees are the face of a hotel, and their attitude greatly impacts the guest experience. Unfortunately, Ms. Kalis’s dismissive and unhelpful demeanor reflected poorly on the hotel. I hope management takes action to improve service standards. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially to international travelers expecting basic courtesy and assistance.
