great location. overall nice property

overall we had a lovely trip. the cleaners did not clean prior to our. arrival. they showed up to clean 2 hours after our check in so the place was a little messy. lots of sand on the floors and bathrooms not clean but nothing egregious. the cleaners then showed up 1/2 hr before check out creating unneccessary pressure to our already busy morning as they were parked right next to us watching us try to pack up and load the car. it was uncomfortable. the place also just a bit run down. like the safety rails on the bunk bed are held on by zip ties which seems unsafe. also half the property lists to one side almost 3 inches lower on one side of the house. while its likely safe enough it does give off the concern that the house is going to fall down. at least half of it. the location is nice and despite a few hiccups overall a nice enough stay.

Great rental

Super clean house directly across from the beach. Ocean views & breeze. Beds are comfortable, quality linens, central A/C that kept the house comfortable during a heat wave. Fully stocked kitchen. Good supply of beach items for use including chairs, umbrella, beach cart, toys, spike ball and cornhole. Would definitely stay again!

Dog and Family friendly

We were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities of this property. We have a dog, and appreciated the gated deck so that the dog could hang with us on the porch. When we went down to see what was available for the beach I found a great light weight tent, corn hole Fridays, boogie boards chairs…Sven a Charcoal grill, with charcoals, lighter and starter. We don’t crate the dog because he is really chill but they even had a crate folded up under the bed. The location was perfect. Just over the hill to the beach. And the breeze off the water was amazing. The rest of VA was in a heat wave but we would have never known. The Hot tub was the best in the evenings. We aren’t really a streaming family so the tv was kinda lame. (For the kids, but mom loved not having to compete with the television. And they figured out how to stream their favorite YouTube channels.) we never really got the tv to work in the master bedroom. I think the internet just wouldn’t reach. Seriously we had a really great time and loved every bit of the house. (Word of caution: walking the dog on the beach is a pain for my dog. He is a hound mutt and chases waves. So I rather walk him on the road. That beach road has no sidewalk. And the shoulder is very narrow. I did find a few “hiking” paths. But they were VERY buggy.)

Great, Relaxing Stay

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The location is unbeatable. Directly across from the beach and within walking distance to restaurants. The property was clean and the beds were comfortable. We hope to make it back someday soon!

First stay in Outerbanks

We had a wonderful stay at the Salty Dog! The proximity to the beach was great! Being next to John's was a plus! The hot tub was great, we enjoyed it nightly. The neighborhood felt safe and welcoming. The location was central and easy to navigate to shops, restaurants and grocery stores. The host was prompt with responses. We enjoyed the deck, where you were able to hear and see the ocean. We had a great time and recommend staying at the Salty Dog!

Great home, great time!

We had a wonderful time at this property. I thought it would be hard for my elderly dog going up and down the stairs every time she had to go out but with her harness I was able to get her up and down no problem. The harness helped too for across the street to get her up the hill to the beach for an evening run. My kids had a blast but I think my dog even enjoyed it more. The place was just as advertised and in a great location. We left very early on our last day and my aunt inadvertently forgot one of her bags. When we unpacked we realized it was her bag but Mike had already contacted my shortly after we left to let us know we had left it behind. She will be receiving it today and we are so grateful. We cooked most of our meals and were able to find any kitchen appliance or utensil we needed. We loved how close the Target was, gas stations, and John’s next door had live music some nights. We ventured out to Duck for one of our meals to Coastal Cravings which was so delicious. I think anyone would love staying here! Any question or problem was easily resolved by reaching out to Mike. We look forward to another trip and would love to stay in this house again.

Great unobstructed views and beach access!

Had an awesome beach week at the Salty Dog. The location is perfect. Tons of beach chairs, boogie boards and even spike ball are in the outdoor closet. Access to John’s next store for lunch and ice cream shakes was yummy and convenient. Wish they did breakfast!! The house could def use a bit of a refresh as some of the areas and pots and pans are a bit worn out but it didn’t affect our good times! Would stay again! And it’s pet friendly!!!!

Great trip

We had a wonderful time in Kitty Hawk. The house was great and just as advertised. Mike was super helpful and easy to work with. The location is awesome for beach access, restaurants, night life, fun, etc. Being beside John’s was absolutely I problem and even a plus so we could grab lunch or a milkshake. Our dog enjoyed herself too! Just wear shoes on the beach on the hot days (and remember your dog’s feet will burn too!)!!

Nice place!

The Salty Dog is wonderfully located across the beach road, but unlike most such properties, there is no building in front of it, so you get a great ocean view! There were just two of us, so there was ample room. The place was clean and suitably decorated. We had everything we needed except a couple of kitchen items, and we made do without those. The porch is great! It's fun being next to John's Drive-In. I recommend the Dolphin Boat!

Perfect spot

Perfect spot for two families of 4 with one dog. Easy access to beach, enough room for all , and the hot tub helped warm up on the cold afternoons. Already looking into booking next year. John’s next door was great spot for the kiddos.

Great location

We had a group of ladies just wanting to relax and enjoy the beach. The house location was great being right across the street from the beach. Front porch and deck were nice to view the ocean and feel the breeze. The house fit our needs. Kitchen area could use some organization and more thorough cleaning. Overall the property was comfy and cozy. The bedrooms and bathrooms worked well. We all liked the outdoor shower. Laundry room was helpful for washing beach towels, etc. and storing beach chairs and floats. Did not use the hot tub as it was too hot. Would be great in any other season. Thank you for a enjoyable week!

The very center of OBX

Perfect center of a beachy vacation. The right combination of surf cabin and creature comforts. Ten seconds from the sand. Good air conditioning (quite refreshing in July sun). Breezes each morning and evening, perfect for the spa on the back deck. Surrounding decks large enough for cornhole and crab boils. Easy reach to sights of Wright Brothers, Hatteras and Duck/Corolla.
