The hotel charged my debit card for the full amount of the stay over a week prior to my reservation date, when the terms of the reservation said payment was due at check-in. Expedia reps unsuccessfully tried to resolve this with hotel management and ultimately advised that I would have to deal directly with the hotel. Upon checking in, I was told I would be charged a $100 deposit because the hotel was fully booked that night?! When I said I’d already paid the bill in full, I was told that as soon as the employee checked me into the computer, the charge was debited to my card on record and would be refunded upon checkout. I expressed my dissatisfaction with that, particularly since the hotel did not advise of the deposit at booking and already had had use of my money for a week prior to the agreed-upon payment time. The employee said that when she had reported other guests’ concerns about being charged in full well in advance of check-in, hotel management told her that instructions to continue doing so came from the corporate office.
It’s inconvenient enough that hotel parking is across the street and half a block over from the property, but there was no valet service available. I had booked a room with a courtyard view but was assigned a room overlooking a side street and garbage dumpster. More trivial cons were an ironing board but no iron, scratchy bedsheets, and a luggage cart w/ a flat tire that made navigating w/ it difficult, but again, no valet service available.
