About this space
Stay in a spacious private studio in a beautiful Mediterranean home built by famous architect B. Reede Hardman, block away from the Legendary Claremont Hotel {1 mile from the Rockridge BART metro station/3-5 min drive/uber, 15-20 min walk~ 1.5 miles from UC Berkeley/5-7 min drive~10 miles from San Francisco/20 min drive}. The studio has secured private entrance, queen bed, vintage Burmese couch, dresser, desk, living area, microwave, fridge, and laundry.
The space
*The main house was built in the 1920's, the Mediterranean architecture, hardwood floors and French doors add to its charm.
*Located in the proximity of the landmark Claremont Hotel which offers added convenience of Spa, Salon, Massage, Gym, Tennis Club and Fine Dining within two blocks of walking distance.
*Private studio is spacious and tastefully decorated. The studio is ideal for two people on a queen size mattress bed.
*Microwave, coffee maker, small refrigerator and kettle/utensils for beverages.
*Free dual band WIFI is available.
*Laundry is included in the studio as a bonus.
*Wooden Burmese couch, table/chair, Lap desk, fan, electric heater, extra linen, towels and blankets are available in the closets.
*This is a pet-free and smoke-free environment.
*We strive on keeping the space spot-clean and dust-free.
Guest access
*Your ‘Private Entrance’ – after street parking, you will need to walk through the driveway of the main house and make a left at the parking area to enter the Rear Studio with key provided in a Key Box.
*Key Box code will provided in the 'check-in email' a few days before your scheduled arrival date. You will not need host to be present in person for entering the studio at any hour.
Other things to note
*Please Do Not park in the driveway of the main house. Permit-Free street parking is available outside.
*Please do not leave any visible items/valuables in your parked cars as a 'rule of thumb' for parking in any city (even if this neighborhood is upscale and safe).

Quaint decor but not clean. Shoddy structure, a garage makeover poorly done. No sink for cleaning what small amount of dishes were there. Temp in room was 56 degrees on arrival. Only one space heater ran 8 hours to get up to 60 degrees. Lot of floor level changes- not recommended for disabled or elderly.

Comfortable stay in a beautiful section of Berkeley. Everything as described in listing. Even though the weather was very cold and wet the space was comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Area and great communication. But frankly the space is very cluttery and dusty like an antique store. Many items in the space are clearly just being stored there (it's attached to a large house) and not design elements for the guest, for either appearance or convenience. There is a large urn half filled with water which I never could figure out was supposed to be my drinking water. When I looked for coffee I found a nearly empty can of Folgers in the 2nd or 3rd drawer down below the coffee maker. There are hand written signs all over the space about what to do and not do including 'don't plug in more than 3 things into outlets to avoid a power outage'. There is one wall heater than somewhat heats the space, and a radiator that you can roll out, but there's no place to plug it in. I'm actually surprised if not skeptical that most of the reviews are positive. I've never left a negative review on a place. I usually only review if it's positive. There's so much potential with this space. It's a shame the owners are doing only the minimum toward making it an outstanding experience for the price being asked.

Excellent! Great for a quick overnight!

This space is a converted garage unit that feels quite private despite being attached to the house (doors are locked in between the home and the rental space). We really enjoyed our stay. We especially loved the quiet and the comfortable sleeping arrangements. We felt safe and appreciated the cleanliness.

Spacious Comfort

We were in town to celebrate a family birthday. We found our space perfect in terms of comfort and spaciousness. The kitchenette was perfect for morning coffee and oatmeal. Our other meals were "out" with family. The bed was comfortable and the space was well equipped furnishing everything we needed. Everything's was as depicted in the website photos. We would be happy to return to this space in the future when it isn't possible to stay with our family. Two thumbs up!

Location: quite residential area in hills of eastern Berkeley, relatively quiet. Distance from hubbub was a plus for us, but I can imagine some might want attractions at their doorstep. Strong Wi-Fi, good hot water Washer and dryer very useful We’d stay there again

Cosy and comfortable stay

It was really nice, comfortable and easy to stay here. It was very clean and cosy, great to have a small fridge, kettle and mini-oven as well as cutlery and a selection of teas. It can get a bit cold during the night and it is a shame, that there is no window facing the view over the bay, but overall it was a really nice stay.

Almost 5-star

This is a large, comfortable room at the back of a large residence in a quiet neighborhood. It has its own entrance and is pleasantly situated with windows overlooking the garden. It has its own washer and dryer in a corner of the room, along with dorm-size fridge, microwave, toaster oven, and French press. The host is very courteous and accessible by email. One big plus for me is that the room is very quiet (as described in other reviews), and the mattress is good so I was able to sleep well even while traveling. The only thing that prevents me from giving the room a 5-star rating is that there is no sink in the room, which means that water for drinking and washing dishes must be obtained from the bathroom sink. I found this arrangement less than ideal and a bit frustrating at times. A little plumbing work to add a true kitchenette with sink could easily turn this room into a 5-star accommodation. But this minor complaint is balanced out by the price and other positive features mentioned above. I would definitely stay here again.

Christmas stay

We enjoyed staying in this Uplands property. The neighborhood is first class, so we felt totally safe. We are grandparents in town for Christmas, and although we only slept in the VRBO, we felt we had good value. Plenty of linens were supplied, and the space heaters kept us warm in the unusually frosty weather!

The prefect neighborhood stay

The studio is clean, spacious, and private. I was in town for a visit with family, so I was eating all my meals away and needed a comfortable and quiet place to relax in the evenings - and a good location to take my runs in the mornings. This was perfect! I had a few interactions with the host who was gracious and helpful during my 2 week stay. I’m going to recommend this to everyone I know looking for a place to stay in Berkeley. So lovely!
