I’ve stayed at the simple life in the past and generally don’t have issues. It’s in a nice section of ocean city and the price is good.
On my most recent visit, however, there were a couple of problems. First, checking in is now combined with the flamingo at their service desk. Not a huge deal, but it did turn a two minute check in into a 20 minute process. After checking in, my husband and I went to our room. The smoke detector wouldn’t stop chirping due to a dead battery. We walked back to the flamingo (they no longer have phones to front desk in the rooms) and let them know and asked for someone to please come replace the battery. The woman said someone would be right up. I fell asleep and two hours later my husband had to find the number and call to ask if someone was going to come replace the battery. They said no, that there are 40 people there and only two employees. He told the employee that this was unacceptable, we were told someone would be right up and we weren’t paying to be slowly driven crazy by their smoke alarm (simply unplugging it was not an option, I had already tried). The guy argued for a minute and then came up and tried handing some batteries to my husband, who couldn’t figure out how the smoke detector opened. The guy also couldn’t figure it out and disappeared for 15 minutes before bringing the smoke detector back in working order.
All in all it could have been worse but didn’t appreciate being lied to and there are better places for the same $$
