Located at the northernmost point of the Austral archipelago, just an hour and a quarter by plane from Tahiti, Rurutu reveals its face through landscapes shaped by erosion, offering impressive cliffs and caves. Thanks to its temperate tropical climate, Rurutu offers an incredible diversity of panoramas amid lush vegetation. Plantations of coffee, miri (wild basil), grapefruit, oranges, lemons, papayas, taro and lychees turn Rurutu into a veritable botanical Eden, as well as being an exceptional observatory for humpback whales between July and October. Local handicrafts are also very fine and renowned in the Austral Islands: basketry, weaving, mats, bags, hats... you'll find beautiful souvenirs to bring back as gifts or in memory of your visit to Rurutu!
