I make many a one-night stops on my way to resort vacations and never flinch at cheap, small motels. But I will never stay at Knight's Motel again.
Salem is a beautiful city and this motel is less than 2 miles from the state Capitol. The parking lot is easy to access. But the moment you enters the lot, you realize that it is a rundown property. The iron-bar protected office setting seems to suggest that the location is less than safe. Then, I was overwhelmed by the stale odor when I entered the room, suggesting lack of maintenance and poor cleaning. Poor cleaning is also evident when I inspect the shower room. I tried to touch as few things as possible during my short stay, including limiting contact with sink faucet. No way will I use any appliance in the room. The rooms do not have central heating/cooling. The in-room unit is very loud. Good thing that I was exhausted after a long drive the noise did not bother me too much.
In short, do not choose Knight's Motel even if it is cheap. I'd rather stay at Motel 6.
