Great on the inside, a bit "dormitory" looking on

We drove by The grand American and thought it was our hotel so we got a little disappointed coz the hotel is a few cottages on the outside, not particularly appealing. But the lobby is grand and the room is spacious, as shown in the photos. We love the double sinks.

I was really impressed with the quality of this hotel. The front desk offered me a room upgrade for $20 into a high tower room. It was gorgeous! It even had a balcony. The only problem was the sinks in the bathroom backed up. I was running the water in one and they both backed up. It was stinky and gross, so they switched my room very quickly. The other issue I had was a group of guests were having a huge loud party after 1:30 in the morning. Security had to be called to shut it down. Why would you have a party in a hotel room that late? Not the hotel’s fault but it is ridiculous that guests feel this is ok. My floor was not the only victim. When I was checking out, another guest was requesting a room change because the guests on her floor were also having a party. Otherwise, the hotel is beautiful and the amenities are very nice. I will stay again. Hopefully the guests will be a little less rowdy. Otherwise, I may view this hotel like I view Carnival Cruise lines- drunk ship - and avoid it. I gave it 3 stars for the sink maintenance and the disruptive guests.

The rooms beautiful, the restaurants good, the service in bar and restaurants great. I would've given 5 stars but felt when checking in they were trying to con us to upgrade. We didn't bite, but I was so disappointed a place like this would do that.

Check in was easy enough. Front desk showed me where I would park and where my room was. However when I tried to find out whether or not my room was on the first or second floor she refused to give me straight answer, only telling me that the underground parking elevator got out on my floor. Based on that I assumed it was on the second floor. I had let it be known to front desk beforehand that I was disabled with mobility issues and even request a walk in shower because of it. Despite this knowledge, when I parked and went in the building I was as far away as possible from the entrance. AND I climbed two flights of stairs to get to where I thought my room was, only to discover that I had actually passed my room on the first floor and had to go back down. I get to my room and my freshly made keys flash green but don’t unlock the door. I called to the front desk and tell them what’s happening and she’s asking me verification questions. At this point I’m in pain, dizzy, sweating profusely, and near tears I’m so frustrated. She proceeds to ask me what the last four digits of the card I put on file are???? And then proceeded to make me wait 10 minutes, in danger of passing out and crying in the hallway. The guy gets there with a new key and is like “is your night going okay?” Like…obviously not, I am visibly distressed and my keys don’t work. Room was fine and cold but the bathroom had a tub in it so I didn’t get to shower. They also double charged me for parking

Extremely disappointed in the cleanliness of this hotel. Hair left in bath/shower, found a large yellow stain on comforter that was covered by a blanket, coffee machine was not usable. We stayed in their Garden Room which was right against a busy street, traffic went until very late at night. Would not recommend.
