This is the first hotel that I have ever actually felt affection for. It is like something out a movie; one of a kind - a classic feel to it. It is charming and a bit unusual in a very pleasant way. There are two well-appointed bars staffed with relaxed, efficient & friendly bartenders wearing black, and a pool table out in the open where anyone can play a game without worrying who is watching. This hotel has a small comfortable lobby with interesting lighting. I enjoyed a live music duo one which was set up in the back bar, and a teeny tiny well-mannered dog accompanies one of the management staff about and will greet you if you ask it to. Desk staff relaxed and helpful. Be aware that rooms are very small, but have everything you need; very European; no waste at all. A clean, pleasant, quiet hotel. If you don't want to take the elevator, an old charming stairwell is well-carpeted with wooden bannisters and creaky stairs, like an old well-worn family home. This hotel appears to be creating a dining area on the second floor, which would be a great addition. This is where I will stay in SF in the future, any time. Can walk to Union Sq, downtown, Moscone easily. Highly recommend
