For the price, I think the LUMA hotel does a nice job and it is certainly tech-forward and feels like that area of SF but it is worth noting a few things for those staying:
Notes:
- If you are leaving the hotel later in the day or you are a late riser, you can't get room cleaning done after 12pm even if you click the button on the room for service. (I stayed for 3 days and could not get any cleaning done)
- It is difficult to get someone to help if there is a problem with the room, in my room there was an extremely noisy refrigerator that was hard to sleep with. No way to unplug it or turn it off if you aren't using it.
- The rooms have wall to wall rubber mats instead of carpet, it was fine but just detracted from the experience of a nice hotel. The walls are thin - you won't be going to bed early with neighbors.
- The food availability for an area that close quite early is limited and it really needs to be more expansive. Even for breakfast which is amusing as it is delivered by a insulated robot cooler, it is basically the breakfast you would get working in SOMA on your morning commute in SF but instead of $20, it is $55. There is a great grocery store G and Ike's sandwiches on the block.
- The rooftop experience is too small even for what seemed like people staying in the hotel let alone anyone else in SF, you do need reservations to eat comfortably and if you are a solo traveler you cannot reserve. I went up to check it out multiple nights and just left.
