We used to stay at the Mitzpah while in Tonopah, which is our second stop on our annual car ride from Yuma to Washington State. The Belvada is its sister hotel, a converted bank. Cool exterior and well designed historically atmospheric interior as well. Tonopah has a fascinating history as a mining town. You’ll definitely want to tour the Mitzpah lobby, and the restaurant is quite good too. We prefer the updated accommodations at the Belvada, though to be fair, it’s been several years since we stayed at the Mitzpah. They used to let you just use their Hulu to watch TV. Now it seems you have to sign in with your own password to do any streaming. Too bad. Who wants to risk staying signed in? Also this time there were a few issues. The thermostat didn’t seem to be working and it looked as if someone had kicked in the cabinet in our room. I only took off one star for that since we’ve never encountered anything like it before. It’s an elegant place and well situated for a visit to this cute, very Western town.
