Quite remote and very calm and serene. Excellent place to see the Northern Lights if the weather is clear. If Northern Lights is your goal then you probably should stay in Tromso City and book a van tour that drives you around to the best location for viewing depending on the conditions.

We had a great stay overall. The check-in was the easiest and quickest we have experienced in quite some time. There was free coffee / tea available by the reception all day, a very nice touch in the cold. The sauna in the central building is spacious and convenient. We also had a private sauna in the beach house we stayed in - this was an amazing surprise (should be called out in the room's details!). In terms of location, both Sommaroy island and the hotel are great - to enjoy the scenery and to hunt for the northern lights. The only suggestion we would have is to maybe install dimmer street / outside building lights if possible - I imagine a lot of people visit for the northern lights, which are more difficult to see due to light pollution (especially when external building lights are accidentally left turned on).

Amazing, highly recommend. Beautiful setting, incredible food, really lovely staff. The room was warm and cosy. We particularly loved using the sauna and jumping in the sea. It was a picture perfect place to see the northern lights. We would highly recommend this stay!

We stayed at Sommaroy Arctic Hotel for 4 nights and really loved this place. Breakfast was the highlight of our stay here. Loooved all the food options. Views around the hotel were amazing. Drive to/from Tromso is just magical through the mountains. We saw wild reindeers! Would love to stay at this again :)

Nice Hotel and friendly staff. Experience is definitely weather dependant so check it out before leaving. Not much to do around in winter (3 hours of 'day' light). Recommended, but make sure you check availability of activities beforehand (reservations should be made well in advance). One (big) hour drive drive from Tromso, so make sure you hire a good car and are comfortable driving on icy roads in winter. If you do all the planning in advance and check weather reports, it should be a nice spot for Northern lights. Don't go there for delicate food but they make it up with good local beers (and again, friendly staff).

The hospitality felt mediocre. The rooms were worn out.. the food was ok but didn't match the price. Good things were free cancellations on private hot tubs. But they continued to say fully booked when I saw no one using the hot tubs most hours. Without northern lights and during storms, this rental is not entertaining.

An sich eine super Unterkunft, aber leider Abzüge in der B-Note. Die WC-Sitze waren billigster Ramsch, das verwundert bei über 240.- die Nacht. Leider war auch das Geschirr in der Spülmaschine dreckig (dann eingetrocknet) hinterlassen worden. Das Hotel und vor allem die Stelzenhäuser am Meer sind baulich wirklich super, die Lage sensationell, die Unterkunft an sich perfekt, Da stört dann ein wenig, dass die Liebe zum Detail wenigstens in unserem Haus nicht ganz so gut ausgeprägt gewesen war. Kurz: perfekte Location mit Mängeln im Detail.

Pas la moindre fausse note
Pour passer quelques jours au calme à ~1h de route de Tromso (fin mars pour ma part), cet hôtel convient parfaitement bien. La chambre est propre, de taille standard et la salle de bain est équipée d'une grande douche double. Sinon, petit déjeuné très bien (bcp de choix et de bonne qualité). Concernant l'emplacement, il est éloigné de Tromso, ce qui nous a convenu à nous mais ne conviendrait pas à tout le monde. Si vous ne voulez pas prendre votre voiture, vous allez devoir manger à l'hôtel. Cependant, la carte du restaurant n'est pas grande mais les plats proposés sont variés, bons et au prix norvégiens (plutôt cher mais pas plus cher qu'ailleurs). A noter, la vue depuis la salle à manger est vraiment belle. Si vous prenez votre voiture quelques km et qu'il y a de la neige, cet hôtel est un bon point de départ pour aller faire de la raquette ou ski de rando (à louer à Tromso avant d'arriver là ...). Pour un séjour similaire au calme, je retournerais vollontier dans cet établissement.

Très bel endroit pour amateur de nature
Les chambres n'ont aucune vue, contrairement aux chalets. Mais en tout cas en hiver, cela n'est pas très dérangeant, le site est superbe et l'endroit très propice aux aurores boréales, dont on ne se lasse pas! En ce qui concerne la nourriture, comme presque partout en Norvège, thés et cafés à disposition ; bon petit déjeuner; repas assez inégaux, du surgelé comme ailleurs… par contre je recommanderais la morue séchée, que nous n'avons pas trouvé dans d'autres restaurant, et qui est vraiment une spécialité du pays, dans leur version très sèche et moyennement sèche( un peu moins typée) . excellent séjour de deux nuits début mars.
