The Space:
Weka Pass Cottages 2 sits in the small town of Waikari, South Island, New Zealand. The tiny house is close to the vibrant town of Amberley, Waikuku Beach, and Weka Pass Railway, just a few stones away. You can even take a short trip to the alpine village of Hanmer Springs, known for its natural hot pools and stunning landscapes.
The Weka Pass Cottages are located just 0.1km away in the heart of the main hub, where you'll find cafes, a garage, and a hotel. It's just 0.2km from the center. A lifestyle block surrounded by orchards that offers a private space and a fire pit where guests can relax under the magical, starry night sky.
A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home is just an hour's drive away from Christchurch, with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. The bathroom includes an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, a hand basin, and a gas-heated shower for your use.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please advise that there are three tiny houses (Weka Pass Cottages 1, 3, & 4) that sit on the same property. Additionally, "Mona Vale Country Estate" is another tiny house located 800m (2-3 minute drive) away from the Weka Pass Cottages.
If you want to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and enjoy privacy. However, access to the land host's private residence and other neighbouring properties will be restricted. We have an unfenced pond; not too deep to keep you from falling in. Please be careful of electrical fencing in neighbouring sheep paddocks.

Located in the Canterbury region, Waikari is best known for its tourist attraction - the Weka Pass Railway- and is home to the Māori Rock Art, which can be found under a limestone overhang in Weka Pass Historic Park.
Local favourites include Waikuku Beach, Amberley, Amberley Beach, Woodend Beach Holiday Park, and the Weka Pass Railway. You’re also close to Waikuku Beach township and the alpine destination of Hanmer Springs. Each spot offers a unique experience within easy reach.
Getting Around:
By car:
- An hour drive from Hamner Springs
- 15 mins drive away from Waipara Wineries
- 45 mins drive away from Christchurch Airport
- 35 mins drive away to Hamner Springs Pools & township
By public transport:
From Christchurch, Hamner Springs Bus is available. However, getting to the nearest town is by car or bus.
Other Things to Note:
- Wifi is available
- Pets are not allowed
- Cable TV is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- WiFi is available; a password will be provided upon booking
- Please keep in mind that some areas are shared with the land host
- No smoking is allowed inside the tiny home, except in designated areas
- Given the unfenced pond on-site, children are welcome under CLOSE ADULT SUPERVISION
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
