We recently stayed at the Copthorne Resort in the Bay of Islands. The room was comfortable and provided a decent place to relax; however, the overall decor and amenities felt noticeably dated. The terrace outside our room was little more than a large concrete step, furnished with a couple of chairs awkwardly placed against the airconditioning unit, which didn’t add much to the relaxation vibe.
Dining at the on-site buffet was a mixed experience. The food itself was good, but the setting had an institutional feel that detracted from the overall experience. While nothing was outright awful, the atmosphere left me feeling that we'd explore other options if we return to the area.
Overall, if you’re seeking a modern, updated resort experience, you might want to look elsewhere, though the basic comfort might suffice if that’s all you need
