The Name
Jarrah is a tough, beautiful and resilient timber that grows only in the South West region of Western Australia. Waroona was born out of the Jarrah industry in the 1890s. The land that Jarrah Cottage is built on was once part of the original timber mill facility that operated from the 1890s to World War 2. The structural framing of the floor, walls, and roof of Jarrah Cottage are constructed of Jarrah, and the floorboards are also Jarrah. The bench seat on the front porch is made from structural Jarrah that was recovered from a historic timber drying shed that was located on the property.
The Town
Waroona is situated at the foot of the Darling Range and serves as an ideal base for exploring the region and its adjacent towns, including Mandurah, Harvey, Pinjarra, Dwellingup, and Preston Beach. Local attractions and activities include wineries, Waroona Dam, Drakesbrook Weir, Lake Clifton, Lane Poole Reserve, Murray River, Jarrah forests, zipline adventures, water skiing, kayaking, walking trails, mountain bike riding trails, trout fishing, beach fishing, forest four-wheel drive trails and beach access for four-wheel drives.
