The Neighborhood:
Fletchertown is a small village to the North of the Lake District National Park, made up of a few rows of what were miners’ cottages who worked at the local coal mine. The abandoned mine and its spoil remain known locally as ‘Pit Bank’. From here, you can discover the beauty of the National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The nearby market town of Wigton (6 miles) and the pretty village of Calbeck (10 miles) both have some great places to eat and drink, or you can head west to spend a day by the sea at Maryport (12 miles) and Allonby (10 miles). The edge of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is to the north (7 miles), offering miles of breathtaking walks. Going south into the Lake District, you can explore Bassenthwaite Lake (9 miles) and visit attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park (9 miles), the Lakes Distillery (9.5 miles) and Mirehouse and Gardens (12 miles)
