I stay regularly at this property and the standard has been falling. This time the room had not been cleaned properly and the reception desk was only manned intermittently. Also tissues In room no longer supplied and loo paper much cheaper. On previous visits I have noticed that the unattended back entrance is permanently open and taken with the empty front hall, security is non existent. I had the sense that the hotel is struggling and hope that I am wrong as the rooms with a cathedral view are pleasant. (NB the view is obscured for some rooms when trees are in leaf).

Service from young man on reception was good Hotel in dire need of major refurbishment/ repair. Very dated gives impression not much spent on the place for many years Car Park £15 per night assuming you can find a spot. Breakfast Buffet expensive at £17.50 per head (plenty of much better options available within walking distance, recommend Josie’s). Not considered to be above 2-3 star rating but charging 4- 5 star prices

Stayed in room 230 and found hotel very dated. No water available in room and stain on bedding. Bathroom shower awful as ceiling very low so shower head was low down.

Room was acceptable for one night. No air conditioning but a fan was provided - the room was very warm and the fan quite noisy overnight. Dated decor and significant wear and tear in the bathroom. Plenty of plug sockets but no usb ports in the room. Complimentary toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and shower gel) were good quality. Central location, less than two minutes walk from the high street.

It was raining and very later, we were tired of trying to find this hotel. The receptionist said she couldnt help us find it at all. Same lady Fara wouldnt open the door to let my husband me and our baby in, though it was cold and raining. Despite me telling her i wanted to book a room because i saw rooms available online, she said no rooms available, go to travelodge oppoisite. She said I could book online if I wanted to, so i did but she still wouldnt let us in! Even though i showed her on my phone. She stood there arguing it takes time for the booking to come through and she needs to wait before letting us in. We asked her why she wasn't checking and she decided to go to the computer. Finally she let us in and then we waited longer, after which she contacted someone to give us a emergency room. Having a 11 week yr old with me made no difrerence, she was adament not to open the doors and she took no responsibility for treating us in this way. I am appauled at her behaviour. She said we could have been drunk and before us there were drunk people around. She also said everyone is the same, thats how we treat them. The manager was spoken to in the morning. He defended her and said this is our policy we have done nothing wrong. But the conversation resulted in him refunding the parking charge. Ive never been treated like this before by hotel staff. Other than this the mugs in the room were dirty. Zak offered outstanding customer service and went out of his way

Be careful about booking this property on free cancellations, they like to keep your pre-payments and charge you despite cancelling in plenty of time - Expedia won't help as the payments go via the hotel.

Hotel’s in a good area - central accessible convenient for what we wanted - also a large room, and a pleasantly spacious building. A bit irritating to book a double room with a double bed and then find it’s 2 beds put together! The dispenser soap & shampoo may be ubiquitous but we still don’t like using it - it seems ungenerous to provide it as we can’t imagine anyone want's to use it except in emergency.

Very close to the nice pedestrian mall & Cathedral. Staff was helpful with transportation options. Room was a little awkward getting to with suitcases as needed steps.

There was no tourist info or writing note paper or pencil in the room. The bathroom wash basin waste water would not drain properly. Blocked wast pipe.

Loved the location and quirkiness of the hotel. Staff excellent - friendly, attentive, respectful and efficient. Room was good and bed comfortable; only small drawback was lack of air conditioning on one of the hottest nights of the year!! And no prior notice of the add on charge for parking. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment about the food offer.

Nice hotel friendly staff but rooms desperately need electrical upgrade. No USB charging points and no spare socket outlets to plug in charger adapter. It would be so easy to replace single sockets with double and with USB integrated outlets. Rooms are a bit tired but appear clean and well presented.

The hotel is very tired. Lots of damage. The breakfast is awful and too expensive Out of the group of 10 (5 rooms) only 2 had working air conditioning. It was clean. Location was good.

Proximity to the Cathedral is great. The bar and restaurant seem to be in a transition with a new ordering, etc system but that should be transitory. Reception staff very helpful. Room very comfortable-in the heat it wasn’t possible to open windows wider and fan inadequate. I hope they invest in individual room AC units for future visits.
