“We stayed here for my son’s graduation weekend from Emory & Henry. It’s a bit of a ways to campus, but that worked fine for us. The place is beautifully appointed, incredibly comfy mattresses, and an amazing location with the sound of the river flowing all around. The gravel driveway is a bit rustic by most peoples standards, I think, but I grew up on a farm and this one was much better maintained than that. While this cottage is beautiful, and a peaceful respite in a town that has recently experienced the ravages of Hurricane Helene... be forewarned... you will find yourself surrounded by the MAGA faithful at this location. Expect the oversized flags... pit bulls... run down properties... and plenty of divisive pronouncements from the bumpers of pickup trucks. With that said... Location is the big appeal to this property, right in town with the major bike rental outfitters for Creeper Trail literally across the street.As of April 2025, the community is still rebuilding from Helene damage, but still has plenty on offer in Damascus, nearby Abingdon with the Barter Theater, historic downtown and nice restaurants.
