“What a gem!! Bergamo was a half-hearted, 1-day visit we added to our trip since we were flying into Milan in the evening & yet we were SO pleasantly surprised! The old town, which is walking distance from La Valleta, is beautiful with a nice handful of shops & restaurants. La Valleta is a lovely hillside Villa with a small handful of rooms & very nice & kind proprietors. But what really stands out is their breakfast! It has the usual staples (fruit, yogurt, cheese, meats, cakes) but they offer……

“This is a wonderful boutique hotel perfectly situated for a stay in beautiful Bergamo's Citta Alta. We were greeted so warmly - the managers and staff are all smiles all the time! - and welcomed with a glass of lovely local White and a charcuterie board, while we watched the tiny funicular which goes up to the highest point of the town. The rooms are very nice. This area is quiet but so close to fabulous restaurants and shops and its famous walls and stunning architecture. We loved our stay and……

“The airport bus drops you right at the door of the hotel, the funicular to the old town is an easy five minute walk and the hotel is well-placed between the old and new town. Breakfast was lovely, there is a restaurant on the roof, it is pricey but the views are really fantastic and the food was delicious. The hotel is also a fifteen minute from Atalanta's stadium. ”

“Very good hotel in the middle of the old town. Only two items I can think of where the hotel could improve: 1- the air conditioning system in the rooms is not particularly user friendly, so one may end up feeling either too cold or too warm; 2- as the hotel seems to be family run, the same person who looks after breakfast is supposed to help customers check out, which clearly is an issue if somebody is in a serious hurry. If so, I'd suggest customers to clearly state at what time they need to……

“The place is in the middle of the old town, which is a perfect location. I also have to appreciate the super-friendly owner/provider who helped me accommodate and explained everything. My bathroom was not within my room, but the bathroom was private (just for my room), so no big deal. The place can also be a bit noisy, but that is the tax for being in the centre of the old town.”

“Our stay in Bergamo was just great. La Castellana was nicely placed in Cita Bassa, 25 min. walk from Citta Alta. The apartment was on the 3rd. floor with no lift. It's layout was very strange, and so was the interior. There was hardly any glasses, plates or cutlery, which was a minus. The staff was nice and helpful when we were in need of assistance. We will definetely return to Bergamo, but not to La Castellana. ”
