“When my taxi arrived at 3 AM and looked at the hotel exterior, I laughed. It was too funny. But once I got into the hotel and my room, I was cool with everything. Clean, comfortable albeit very small room and bathroom shower system in which the entire room is the shower! Something new for me but I learned quite typical in India. I was scheduled to stay 3 nights. But instead of moving to another hotel, I stayed 6 nights. Good hotel if you accept simplicity and great value but do without……

“I very much enjoyed my stay at the Hope Inn in Kolkata. It is a simple, small and quiet three-story hotel in an alley right near where I wanted to be. The rooms are very basic, but the Inn was staffed 24 hours a day - helping me feel very safe as a woman traveling alone. I appreciated the availability of air conditioning in a hot week in Kolkata. The feeling of safety and being taken care of that I had there. Their early check-in time, immediate help in carrying my bags, and in helping me use……

“The hotel is located conveniently. The service was courteous. First the positives: The room was spacious, and so was the bathroom. The bathroom was clean and all fixtures were clean and functioning.. Some of the concerns issues we faced: - after-hours check-in process is a problem as the hotel gates close and lights are turned off after hours. For guests arriving late night/very early (e.g., international travelers), this is a problem. It is a good idea to have the hotel phone number handy;……
