About Soulsbyville:
Soulsbyville is located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills, the heart of California’s “Gold Country.” It is accessible year round and conveniently located near Yosemite National Park and other regional favorites, including Columbia and Railtown State Historic Parks. Every season brings a natural beauty to this area and there are numerous opportunities to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
Soulsbyville was the first community in Tuolumne County, founded in 1855 by gold miner Benjamin Soulsby. Soulsbyville began as one of many East Belt mines. Miners from Cornwall, England worked the hard rock mines in the region. Today, Soulsbyville is a small, rural mountain community near the towns of Sonora and Tuolumne City. The historical marker is one stop on the Mark Twain and Bret Harte Trail.
