The hotel is just opposite Deal's beautiful beach - if you get a sea view room you'll catch the sunrise. It's not a luxury hotel! - but was functional, clean and a great option for a weekend at a festival in neighbouring town Margate. “We are a group of 8 ladies enjoying a weekend away and we had a wonderful weekend at Downs Cottage. The property was perfect… comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, beautiful decor, superb location, sauna was a bonus and the garden was very pretty. Deal itself was a very welcoming town, friendly people. We’d recommend Margarita’s for take away pizza and Mike’s Bikes for cycle hire. Walking distance into Deal from the cottage was about 30mins, which along the seafront was no time at all. “Barry and Gaynor should be incredibly proud of the wonderful haven they've built and hosted here. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were made to feel so welcomed by the pair of them. The apartment is immaculate and way better in real life than the photos would suggest. “I booked this apartment because the description said it was within walking distance of Sandwich town centre, and the map that was displayed prior to booking indicated it was located off Moat Sole in Sandwich town centre. It was only after I had gone through the booking process for what was a seriously expensive booking, a new address was provided for the property approx 1.6 miles away in Woodnesborough! I have restricted mobility and needed to be closer to the town so I asked if I could cancel.……

“While the location in Dover is excellent, the property was disappointing. The property appeared unattended and our apartment wasn't well cleaned. The picture on the VRBO website made me believe the unit was of a much higher quality. While Dover was amazing, the accommodation was the low point of our UK holiday.”

“Das kleine Häuschen in dem sehr netten familiären Chalet Park hat uns super gefallen. Man hat einen tollen Blick aufs Meer und muss nur ein paar Meter die Straße runter laufen zum Meer. Das Haus hat alles was man benötigt von Backofen über Mikrowelle und es gibt tolle Spielmöglichkeiten für die Kinder. Der Pool war leider geschlossen, dafür haben wir den Tennisplatz und den Minigolf Platz genutzt. Wir kommen gerne wieder ganz lieben Dank. !”

The heating was on a schedule such that at night the temperature in the house was around 6 degrees giving me a backache until I asked the owner to keep the temperature at a constant 23 degrees. There no toiletries provided till I asked the owner to provide them. There was only one bowl for porridge until I asked for more of the owner. It seems that Expedia did not ensure proper quality assessment with the owner. When I book through……

Lovely, Clean, New Hotel with a rich history

"The hotel has recently been refurbished but still has the ‘old’ side which you can select the room for stay if you are interested in this historic experience. Those rooms will be available for cheaper prices as well. I chose to stay at the ‘newer’ side for my accommodation this time as they are usually more comfortable for a good night sleep. I was correct and the room looks amazing and spacious too! What a wonderful refurbishment with great designs. Staff were also very helpful and friendly with the hospitality service. Their breakfast or dining area seems lovely although I took it outside instead as there’s so much to do and eat outside the hotel as well. I would loved to stay here once again if I come round for a visit once again. "
