“We could not have asked for a better place, very comfortable, spacious, a very welcoming host (even invited us to dinner at his son’s restaurant), but the best part was an amazing property. If you love old farm houses this as good as it gets!We did the Driftless 100 in Elkader and stayed 2 nights maximizing everything from the modern kitchen to the comfy living room & beds to a perfectly placed fire pit to watch the sunset and sip bourbon after the race. ”

“We have stayed at the Elkader Jail House many times and the Harstad Suite is a great room for the 4 of us. The large kitchen and family space on the first floor provide plenty of space for everyone to get together and relax. Its nearby my family and takes the stress off anyone needing to make space for all of us to sleep. Its comfortable, clean and an easy to walk downtown. We'll be back soon!”

“This unique place has it all: charm, class, comfort, beauty, and fun. When you first walk in, you are greeted with a gorgeous staircase leading to most of the rooms. Our room was spacious, with a luxurious bathroom. The gourmet kitchen is equipped for anything and everything with seating for eight. The adjoining dining room has a large table with additional seating and windows lining two walls. And clean! This VRBO was impressively clean! I have to say the jail was a little eery after dark, but……

“We always enjoy our stay at the Jailhouse Inn. The only request I would have would be updated/new mattresses and an actual headboard for the bed in the Emma Big Bear suite. It's always clean. The shower is wonderful. Tidying up before leaving is never a problem. Thank you.”

“The property was lovely. We wish there was better ventilation in the cell block for those who had to stay in those cells. Those that slept in there were a little warm. We wish the shuffleboard table was up and working. But overall it was a great experience.”
