“D Canal was the highlight of our hotel stays in Sri Lanka. The decoration at the hotel was beautiful and unique. The chef made his own Mango, papaya and lime jam which was to die for. It was definitely the tastiest breakfast we had during our trip. The pool was very relaxing and the staff couldn’t do enough to make your stay enjoyable. There is a free tuk, tuk to and from the property from 10am to 7pm which was very generous. I wish we had stayed longer and will definitely be returning. ”

“The room is good - spacious and clean - except that we were arranged to stay in a room on the ground floor. Would have requested for rooms upstairs for a better view. Staffs were polite - despite service was quite slow.”

“Didn't know what to expect when we booked way back 6 or 7mths ago. It's a shame we only had 2 nights... could easily spend longer. Hotel, is clean and spacious with staff very friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Our room is great, plenty of space, with views from the balcony over the harbour or the small hill to the nearby secret beach. Ideally located for Marissa beach or the whale watching kick of point... both in very easy walking distance. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby,……

“we got the “penthouse” in the villa with views over the beach, however, there were too many flaws to this villa. We had booked two nights and we seriously considered leaving after just one. Up to the top floor we needed to go up a “fire-escape” stairway and we just thought “seriously(?)”. Inside the room we found a good variety of insects and at night we could hear rats running inside the wall or on the roof. We were lucky if we got water out of the shower and especially warm water (super small……

“Very dated furniture/ decor and a little basic , no hot water insects in the bathroom , However all is forgiven when you step onto the balcony the view was to die for could have sat on that balcony everyday for the rest of my life , truly phenomenal ”

“Overall, this hotel is very average. There were a few positive and negatives. I’ll start with the positives. After asking for water and toiletries, they were eventually provided. They let me shower after checkout and stored my bag, which was nice! The room is very average, but there was a gap above the door that didn’t shut all the way which let bugs in at night. There was loud music late into the early morning hours from neighboring hotels. And, perhaps the most offsetting aspect for me was……

“Great location. A few meters away from the street. Decent size room , big bathroom. NO bed sheet to cover yourself with; only blanket. Very welcoming host. The kitchen on rooftop was great for the view but very filthy sink. Of course certain people do not clean after themselves. I recommend the maid cleans everyday. Overall great stay”
