“Friendly staff and clean, spacious room. Not easy to walk there from the rail station. However, One can get there easily through a steel bridge (which was not shown in the map) linking it to the Freeman’s Quoy Centre at the Peninsula, near the Premier Inn Durham. Good and reasonably priced dinner.”

“Our stay at Burnhopeside Hall was one of our most memorable ever. Christine, our hostess, was delightful and helpful. The room was spacious and the surroundings could not have been more grand. This is a stately old home, full of beautiful furniture and dishes, near sheep pastures and the river. While there, we walked the yard and fields behind the house, went down to the river, accompanied by Barney and Spencer (the Burnhopeside dogs!). Breakfast was delicious and elegantly presented. “The property isn’t new but it was very comfortable and the owner is very welcoming.”

“Overall everything was good, our only issue was after being there for a few days we noticed the toaster was full of crumbs, obviously not been emptied for quite some time, and the oven tray had not been cleaned after it had been used. We hadn’t met the owner, so decided it was easier just to clean them both before using them. On the hole, everything else was excellent. There was no recycling facilities, which was quite a surprise, and also a slight disappointment. Everything else was above……
