“Matfen Hall really is outstanding, my stay was faultless. All staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful- I was greeted upon arrival with a welcome drink and my bags were taken up to my room whilst I checked in and relaxed in the Great Hall. Every nook and cranny of this hotel is gorgeous, beautifully crafted and fabulously furnished, including the room I was allocated. It was a generous size bedroom and dressing area with a huge bathroom, stunning views and light and airy in the daytime but warm……

“Stayed over for a night whilst travelling back from a trip to Scotland. A great B & B which I can’t recommend highly enough. From meeting Susan on arrival where she showed off our room. Whilst cosy, everything was pristine! A comfy bed and great breakfast the next morning topped off a great stay. Not forgetting the pub attached……where we had our evening meal and probably the best Beef and Ale pie we’ve ever had with great personal service too. We’d highly recommend the Rose & Thistle and look……

“The check in was fast and friendly, the room is lovely, with a nice view. There was quite a lot of noise from the street below early in the morning and the church bells were regular throughout the night. The breakfast was a good amount but lukewarm spolt the vibe. The price we paid , i think was high for this standard.”

“Stylish hotel, lovely food, excellent staff. Parking is on street, busy but normally a place to be had. Hotel room was quiet, nice bathroom, plenty of tea coffee and milk, no fridge. Bed hard, but that’s personal taste. Would highly recommend this hotel.”

“A joy to stay with Elena and her team. A cosy property with more of a guest house vibe than a full-service hotel experience - but all the more enjoyable for that. The castle has a great gastro-pub just a 3-minute walk away in the village. Lovely cooked breakfast in the hotel, Ideal for a short stopover or to explore the area. Perfectly quiet and easily accessible by car or taxi from Newcastle airport. If you want to escape the formality of modern travel and. slow down a bit... Otterburn……
