“Beautiful property, really friendly owner, unbelievably comfortable bed and stunning decor on deluxe room king room. Also had a lovely cooked breakfast. Great location, close to town centre with easy parking outside. Would thoroughly recommend! ”
“Absolutely perfect, beautifully done. Extremely comfortable and it had everything we could need. A lot of thought has gone into making it so. Sue was very friendly and professional, Breakfast was delicious. We will definitely recommend and return.”
“We had a lovely time here. We were driven to the starting point of the walk by Catherine, who was fab. Food was delicious, and the room was very cosy and clean. ”
“Lovely comfortable place to stay with a cosy room with thoughtful touches like biscuits and toiletries included. Friendly, helpful staff. Convenient position - not too far away to drive into from the motorway and only minutes’ walk into the centre Penrith with its bars restaurants and attractions. Delicious breakfast too! Parking available on site or on road with a permit provided. Would definitely recommend!”
“This hotel is of a top standard that many hotels could learn from. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return. This hotel is the perfect half way stop between Aberdeen and the Midlands. Room was excellent. Service faultless. Restaurant and food top quality. Limited food choice but all top quality selection for all tastes. We loved this hotel. Congratulation to the management and staff for a lovely stay.”
“Second visit as a stopover on the way to Scotland. Very convenient for the M6 north. Staff friendly and facilities excellent. Check-in easy Dinner delicious. ”
“We have stayed here before. The staff are great, food is good and there is plenty of space.
The location is perfect in this lovely town.
Dog friendly and human friendly too.
It is an old hotel but that adds character not detracts from it. Highly recommend. ”
“The property was seeped in history. We stayed in room 3, the Kings room. A lovely compact room, spotless with lovely little touches such as a great selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, a fresh little bottle of milk, a comfy bed, feather duvet, black out curtains, great shower and toiletries.
The breakfast was fantastic.
George, our host gave us helpful information and free tickets to Raby Castle. Wow, what a fabulous castle. The rooms were stunning and thd guides very knowledgeable.

“Amazing. Arrived early just as they had finishy cleaning. No problem. Allowed us in good welcome pack, milk tea coffee biscuits. Everything very tastefully presented. Nothing except a playground in the village of Warcop. 5 miles to Appleby in one direction. Kirby Stephen in the other. Lovely countryside.”
“Location is amazing with the AD 122 bus stopping here or around the corner, depending on direction. Also around the corner is The Sill, with a Northumberland Park team of advisors who are excellent and can guide you in seeing Hadrian’s wall. The room was fine, though there is no rubber mat on their slippery shower floor. Having a brewery and pub right there is great and it’s a nice fun place. Breakfast is fabulous, though it is interesting that they preassign the tables. For some reason,……
“Excellent place to stay with the wonderful garden and hospitality. A walk from Boot & Shoe after dinner back to house in a total darkness is quite an experience.”
“I can’t fault this place. Superb in every way possible. Reception staff, restaurant staff all exemplary. Food unbelievable, beautiful grounds surrounding property and 5* rooms. Will be back”
“Lovely hosts, great price. Lovely breakfast brought to room.warm homemade cookie on arrival. Lovely and clean, comfy beds. Good tea making facility in room. ”
“The staff, the food at both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Parking is just across a quiet road.
Our room however left us literally cold. Old building,
'wavy' floors, single glazed casement windows facing the prevailing - brisk - wind and an outside temperature of close to freezing. Then the heating gets switched off for the night !
Considering that this was the most expensive 'one nighter' on our recent trip, we were less than satisfied.”
