“The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.”

“Matfen Hall really is outstanding, my stay was faultless. All staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful- I was greeted upon arrival with a welcome drink and my bags were taken up to my room whilst I checked in and relaxed in the Great Hall. Every nook and cranny of this hotel is gorgeous, beautifully crafted and fabulously furnished, including the room I was allocated. It was a generous size bedroom and dressing area with a huge bathroom, stunning views and light and airy in the daytime but warm……

“Thankyou, I had the perfect night sleep, followed by a walk along the beach to watch the sunrise. Great location, peace and quiet all night and nice cool room”

“Great stay. Superb breakfast. Parking a little difficult. A handrail on one side for the four wide steps down to the bathroom would be a nice improvement. Other than that it was all excellent.”
